Monsoon Magic...
Duration: 10 days (2 hours each day) Ages : 6 and up An outdoor workshop for those who love rain and water, culminating in a play! The workshop will focus on water as one of the primary elements of nature on which much of life depends, introducing children to the water cycle, monsoon winds, different kinds of water bodies, the legends of India’s rivers, famous water bodies around the world, literature inspired by water, stories and poems with water as a theme, etc. They will be introduced to famous activist movements centering around water such as the Narmada Bachao Andolan. They will understand why the Mithi overflowed, and why the Ganga is considered a holy river… The importance of water in all religions as a purifying element will be highlighted, as will its unmistakable presence in many tribal rituals around the world, to help children realize why water pollution is such an act of violence against something so sacred. Festivals celebrating the arrival of the monsoon will be enacted by the children to help them understand the role rain plays in our economy. Introducing children to methods such as rain water harvesting employed in drought-affected areas such as Rajasthan will bring home to children the urgent need to start conserving our most important resource. At the end of the workshop the children will put up a short play on the theme of water, which they themselves will write, perform and produce! Workshops at NCPA To register, Click Here
