RHYME TIME...
Saturday April 16th, 2011 – 10am-2pm NCPA Sea View Room For children ages 6-12 Cost : Rs 2,500 per child (inclusive of lunch and materials) Rhyme Time is a lovely, fun, and creative poetry writing and performance workshop for children, wherein they are introduced to wonderful international poets such as Dr Seuss, Shel Silverstein, T S Eliot among others. Children will learn the basics of poetry writing, such as rhyme, creation of stanzas, imagery, etc and will be introduced to poetic forms such as the haiku, limerick, etc. After the initial introduction, they will be inspired to come up with their own poems, which we will help them edit and refine. We will also show children how poetry can be brought to life through performance! They will learn certain basics of performing poetry - voice projection, modulation, body language, punctuation, etc. At the end of the workshop, there will be a mini-competition, wherein children will actually perform their own creations, culminating in a poetry slam for children! There is also a prize for the Grand Slam winner! Shivani Tibrewala, poet-writer-director-producer, heads the theatre group ‘No License Yet’. Childrens' Workshops, conducted by No License Yet help mould sensitive and caring young minds into tomorrow’s conscientious citizens, and fire up children’s imaginations, encouraging their creativity and natural expression. No License Yet conducts children’s workshops on the third Saturday of every month on subjects as diverse as creative writing, puppets, environment, poetry, travel, and leadership. No License Yet also conducts poetry slams regularly at the Blue Frog and other venues. Shivani Tibrewala herself recently represented India at the Indian Ocean Poetry Slam hosted in Reunion Island and was one of twelve international poets invited.
